Observed on the 4th and 5th of March last, in the presence of the Noble Mr. Matheus van den Brouck, Ordinary Councilor of India, as Admiral of the return fleet and Commissioner of this residence, by His Nobility and the Council on the many complaints and doleances of the free farmers here regarding the low and meager price of grain, and that so. consequently,113 if no improvement was made in this regard, it would be necessary to break down the required agriculture and abandon it, because with the current price, in view of their heavy expenses and labor wages, it would not be possible to continue doing so, it was resolved and established to increase the price of grains, and so also firstly for wheat, the mud from ƒ7 to ƒ10 in purchases, and therefore subsequently again from ƒ10 in purchases to ƒ12 in purchases, and for rye the mud from ƒ5:10114 to ƒ7 in purchases and ƒ9 in purchases, To augment, and since all other grains have remained untaxed over time, it has been deliberated upon by the Council and resolved that barley, the price of which was ƒ5.10 per pound when purchased and ƒ7 when sold, will henceforth be ƒ6 per pound when purchased and ƒ7 when sold.
Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope, on the day and year aforesaid.
