As we have sent to the sub-merchant Georgh Fredrick Wreeden, in order to comply with the orders of the E. Compe. for the maintenance of the same right in the Saldanhi Bay, and have now been informed by 't Robbeneylant that a ship was seen there, sailing off the Saldanhi Bay, without being able to determine which nation it belonged to, we have, in satisfaction of Her Honor, ordered by the respective letters dated 20 November 1667,89 23 do. 1668, and 10th December of the same year, given to us, found it useful to send the person of Martinus Jacquet,90 as experienced in the Latin and French languages, and being properly informed, there on the boat Leepelaer, in order to inquire about the aforementioned ship, and if it was found that the aforementioned ship had crashed there because of the French East India Company, to file an act of protest on a permanent form with the aforementioned sub-merchant Georgh Frederick Wreeden, and furthermore to ensure everything to preserve the right and possession that the E. Company. concerning Saldanhiabaeij, the aforementioned Jacquet was also ordered to give us the order as soon as possible and to bring back the goods as and when the matter arises.
Thus done and resolved at Fort de Goede Hoope on the day and year aforesaid.
