Also Willem de King of Noortloos, a midshipman in the service of the E. Compe. d’ Heer Commissaris Jan van der Laan, has come to us by request to show that on December 5, 1665, when stationed on the island of Mauritius next to the aforementioned settlements, he was sentenced by sentence of the chief and council there to a fine of three consecutive years' wages, which had also already been written off from his account, and all the same for offenses that, in his opinion, did not deserve such a punishment but could have been dealt with less, whereby he was now indebted for such a considerable sum and could not be served within his confinement, therefore we request that his faults be atoned for according to the sentence there of that date. with the reason therefor being wished to look into the aforementioned matters a little more closely and favorably, Therefore it is that we have considered the aforementioned matters with mature deliberation, on the order of His E. most honorable. since his hasty departure, and have found, that they do not equate them all too well with punishment; moreover considering the good services rendered to the petitioner since then on the aforementioned point, therefore as since a few have resolved and understood to relieve the same King of the last two years and to allow him to act again on his fair property, such that the aforementioned first year passed shall be declared forfeit.
