English translation

Also the ships Wassende Maen and 't Wapen van der Gouw arrived here on 29th August and both are destined for the island of Ceylon, off Coutchin, on the Mallebaer coast, whither the Wassende Maen has already been departed for 3 or 4 days, with the intention of attempting to make the journey between Madagascar and the coast of Africa, to Coutchin, since there is still wind here and they must remain at bay, they remained afraid that the time and the monsoon would have expired too far for this. However, the Lord Commander, with commendation, has ordered us to act with the utmost caution in this matter. The naval authorities, here in Council, have debated everything pro and con. Consequently, it has been unanimously agreed upon and approved, firstly, that the captains of these two ships, proceeding on their course beyond Madagascar, promptly and in accordance with the plan, to Ceylon, as much wind and weather permit, as prescribed by Commander Roothaes.52 Secondly, they will also attempt to reach Ceylon, east of Gale, between 8 and 9 degrees, and also try to reach Punte Gale along the coast to await what will be further recommended to them, since the intention of the Honourable Directors to first reach Coutchin is inadvisable with this course.
