After the reading of the sermon this morning, without the slightest hindrance, according to Christian custom, the third consent having been passed for the betrothed persons Jacob Reijniersz of Amsterdam, sub-merchant and second person of the fortress of Good Hope, and Elisabeth van Opdorp, young daughter born in Charloos, also residing in this place. Furthermore, it had not occurred to us that this might have delayed or hindered them in their intentions. The Council, following our resolution of the 8th Passo, granted permission to proceed with the further solemnization of the marriage in the name of the Lord. And to that end, it was also approved so that everything would be lawful, in good order, and to God's satisfaction. Most honor may be accorded to the aforementioned solemnization (as it had no preacher) by having the bookkeeper Fredrick Verburgh, acting Secretary of our Council, serve for him and all the people in an open council chamber, as then, on the date after the end of the Sunday Christian sermon in the name of the Lord, it was legally performed and effectuated in public.
Thus done in the Fort of Good Hope, date of this.
