Although on the 2nd of this month, by adopted resolution, we had decided and determined to send the flute vessel Zee Ridder back to Batavia, and to have it sail over the islands of Madagascar and Mauritius, for reasons expressed in our aforementioned resolution. However, due to various further considerations, we were unable to allow it to depart now, primarily because yesterday, upon the safe arrival of the warship Koghe from the Patria, it was further made known to us by the meeting of the E.E. Heeren Seventien, written from The Hague on February 28th last, that, in addition to the aforementioned... ship and the fluyt Velthoen (both currently moored here) and six ships, namely, Rhijnlandt, Orange, 't Wapen van Zeelandt, Kennemer-Lant, Vlaerdingen and the galley 't Waterhoen had to expect here at the Cape, in order to undertake a certain notable war mission against our common enemies the Portuguese in India under the leadership of E. Huijbert La Resse238, and as the aforementioned Gentlemen would like to see that the aforementioned exploit might be begun and carried out the sooner the better, without having to wait for one or two ships that might be left behind on the journey there, in which case the aforementioned Zee Ridderken would take the place of such a late-appearing ship of ships, meanwhile, could serve to reinforce the fleet that had already arrived, since the aforementioned Majors also most earnestly recommend to us that this effort be secreted as much as possible, so that it might not be discovered here by pardon of English or French ships, we have therefore felt all the more moved to abandon the aforementioned voyage to Madagascar for once, in view of the fact that at present the French have their domicile in three different places within the country, where ours might join and much useless talk might be made about it, as the sailor is accustomed to and has already heard that it will apply in any place, that is to say It has been decided in consultation to keep the said ship with us until the aforementioned E. Commander La Resse appears here, as when, through proper consultation, we will make further arrangements with it, where the aforementioned vessel should be used primarily for the benefit of the General Company.
Thus done and resolved at the Fort of Good Hope, on the date and year as above.
