Afterwards, the Honourable Mr. van der Laen220 as Commander Rear Admiral also proposed, having all the skippers of the return ships prepared to depart under his E. command, that they should let the whistle the Sea Knight sail with them to St. Helena, in order to send news again whether the Honourable Mr. Arnold de Vlamingh had found there with the four straying precious return ships, Wapen van Hollandt, Prins Willem, Aernhem, and the Crowned Lion, and then their Ed. to advise on this in Batavia, and if neither language nor signs were heard of it (as if one were to think one could more certainly state that it would still be behind: be it to Madagascar or Mauritius to perhaps repair their prayed disasters) that one could then also discuss whether one would send it over to the municipality to Batavia and inquire about them there as well as to give a further report221 to the said municipality. Their Ed. Therefore, in order to show that we are thus inclined to perform the aforementioned to the end, after some brief deliberation, consented to the departure of the Sea Knight with them to St. Helena, thus establishing municipality. E. van der Laen ordered that he immediately receive 15 moorings of water on board to ensure watertightness, and that, immediately becoming ready to sail, he would also be allowed to set sail that evening.
Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year as above.
