Then he reviewed the logs kept by the substitute skipper and the helmsman. and having learned nothing more than that each seems to have sufficient for its own purposes, etc., After careful deliberation and consultation, the Commander and Council of Fort Goede Hope, reinforced by Chief Merchant Pieter de Lange and Adriaen Gilde, skipper of the ship Dordrecht, unanimously agreed to leave the surrogacy of the Ship's Council on the 2nd of this month on the ship Maerseveen in its current position and to authorize these individuals in those capacities for all the people, as was also done on that date, namely:
Chief Steward Jan Jansz Swart of Letko in the place of the deceased skipper Pieter Berckhout. to skipper.
The second mate Cornelis Jansz van Bergen to chief mate.
The third mate Jan Evertsz van Es from Batavia to second mate and the sailmaker Zacharias de Groot to third mate, having sailed to India for that date, to serve as second mate.
Leaving the approval of the aforementioned qualities and the increase in wages reserved for My Lords, the Governor-General and Councillors of India in Batavia. Furthermore, the necessary regulations have been established for both, both in taking rank at the table and otherwise, so that everyone would know how to regulate accordingly.
Thus done and resolved at the Fort of Good Hope on the date and year as before.
