English translation

As during the last land march finally the long sought after people living to the north called Namaquas were found, according to the report and markings of our people inserted in the diary on the 11th. 195. So, to keep the enthusiasts chaste, it was agreed that the land marchers, 13 strong, head for head, for finding these Namaquas and the markings brought with them, should each be honored with 6 reals of eight in cash, and in addition to pay for the goats brought with them, up to three guilders, and for the young ox up to twelve guilders, in accordance with the promise made to them namely that everything they found or negotiated how civilly it would be for their first voyage to be honored and paid in cash.

Also, to prevent any major setbacks, they should also provide them with a ration of brandy in cash, at the price they would pay from the Company's warehouse. Furthermore, the former chief, the corporal of midshipmen Pieter Cruijthoff, promised to have double the wages earned on this voyage, to have the surplus paid in cash, and to allocate it to the account of extraordinary expenses, in addition to the provisions and merchandise they had received from the aforementioned nation, etc. honored and consumed, all of which appears to be proper.196

And although the King of Saldanhar, Oedasoa, seems to have little inclination to send some people to the aforementioned Namaquas (his enemies) to offer peace, which peace they have promised ours to accept, if Oedasoa would send only two or three men with us for that purpose. It has been resolved, however, that they will understand Oedasoa's intention to do so, or not, to make another expedition to the aforementioned Namaquas before the regency, with a respectful reverence for the King and his three sons, plus some of the principal ones, in order to make them all the more inclined to us and to lure them back here, or at least some of them, to receive them well here and with assurance of protecting them from the Saldanhars, their enemies, especially since much of the bought cloth of the French clergy, the most sort, was drawn especially among this people, as were red caps and red cloth to make such caps, which were therefore sought out as much as possible among the people and the worst against 1/2 Ra. to be paid, more expensively the advenant: to show the aforementioned nation, first of all, how they can be accommodated, since they appear to be an active people, who trade with others deeper in the country and perhaps have more with them, as one has only recently learned.

And after this expedition, the surgeon-in-chief Pieter van Meerhoff, who gave the description of the last expedition and was the second, and who also knows how to deal with this people very well, is again offered. It is understood that he will be present there as head, with another eight people, mostly from the last enthusiasts, who also offer their services with him.

Thus done and resolved at the Fort of Good Hope on the date and year as above.
