English translation

In Rade, sick-comforter Pieter van der Stael, having been exiled from his first five-year term, also expressed his inclination to continue serving the Holy Company. He therefore requested some improvement in his salary, as he was also acting as the sick-house administrator, both in his capacity as a regent of the same. He also had the intention of teaching some Hottentoes to read our Dutch language, as well as the Company's and its servants' serfs. It was therefore agreed to accept him de novo on the condition that the following deed be granted to him, dictating:

Pieter van der Stael arrived here from Rotterdam on March 4th. 1656, with the yacht Weesp for sick-comforter at 36 guilders per month, this is, at his request and due to his eligibility, since his 5-year term expires for another three years in the aforementioned capacity, and since the sickhouse is also acting as its regent, as well as teaching the Companion slaves and the Hottentoes the Dutch language and Christian doctrine, in which all benefits are derived, a monthly salary of 45 guilders is added upon approval by the Majors in the country, both commencing on March 4th after the aforementioned term expires.

And since the commander of this fortress, Nataniel West, has also served his five years at 15 guilders per month and has shown himself willing to continue for a longer period, subject to an improvement in salary and expenses, it is understood that he will continue in the aforementioned capacity of commander and, if possible, also as executioner for the same salary, and in lieu of 2, he will henceforth receive three reales in expenses.

Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the date and year as above.
