The Rev. Vice Commander de Knibber, skipper Pieter Jonasz, merchant Jan Abramsz Valck, and the fiscal of this fort, Abraham Gabbema, submit a written report in Rade regarding what they experienced on the ship Amersfoort in the dispute between skipper Jan Munt and junior merchant Samuel de Ligne, namely the improper conduct of pilot Michiel Jansz van Diepen against the aforementioned skipper. After reading the report, it was found to be a summary of what had been stated against the other in writing and verbally on the 2nd of this month. Skipper Munt and the sub-merchant de Ligne behaved very rudely towards the other in their duties, using words and insults as a defiance of certain necessities, so that instead of keeping such a cost-effective return ship under the first two heads, and setting a good example for those under them, they fell into the utmost estrangement. Therefore, the Council, having considered the matter with due wisdom, decided and understood it was right to summon Skipper Munt and Merchant de Ligne before the Council or through their commissioners. to have them severely reprimanded for what has happened, and to order that from now on they will each acknowledge and hold accountable for each other in what he is competing for and for which the E. Compe. serves and the ship is equipped, and to allow him and theirs to fully enjoy it as is fitting, or in the event of further withdrawal or negligence on his part that the Council is not willing to trust, in which case it will be provided for as rigorously as possible by necessary means, as the true service of the E. Compe. will be found to belong to the preservation of the ship and the peace of the people, condemning moreover that. Skipper Munt and merchant de Ligne each entered into a financial agreement of 20 reales in cash, for the benefit of half to the treasury here and the other half to the poor of the Reformed Church in Amsterdam.
Furthermore, regarding the complaint filed by Skipper Munt against his pilot, Michiel Jansz van Diepen, and the aforementioned commissioners have found that the pilot did not hesitate to act against his pilot and treat him improperly. Therefore, the Council resolved and arrested the said pilot to be allowed to board the ship "de Nagelboom" without being in command, and that he would replace Skipper Munt with one of the most competent pilots. which are not included in the service on his ship.
Lastly, in Council, Jacob Enten, skipper of the ship Orangie, reveals how Jacob Spennet, a pilot, had served the cockpit berth at ƒ5 per meter since he set sail from Batavias, as the cock alone was too heavy for the work in the cabin. Therefore, he requested that the additional fee be added to it. Taking note of this in Council, it was agreed that Jacob Spennet, by halving his wages, would add a reward of ten guilders per month for the time the berth was occupied.
Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the date and year as mentioned above.
