And furthermore, some stowaways were also found in the Batavia fleet. After careful deliberation, the following was unanimously decided:
Firstly, regarding the clergy, they will be distributed on the fleet, namely:
The bishop, Monsr. Estienne, and the priest, Monsr. Fadijn, at the table in the cabin, and outside the cabin his cherurgine, Frère Patte, with the aforementioned bishop's servant, named Fantasie, on the ship Malacca.
The priest, Monsr. Davroult at the table in the cabin with Mr. Vice Commander and his servant Cordolet, with Lieutenant de la Cloche, outside the cabin on the ship 't Hof van Zelant.
The priest, Monsr. de Fontain, at the cabin table next to his servant Binaire, outside the cabin on the ship De Nagelboom.
The young priest, Monsr. Bartomet, at the cabin table next to a French carpenter outside the cabin on the ship Amersfoort.
The second captain of the aforementioned French ship, Monsr. Carcadiou, at the cabin table next to Monsr. la Roche and the nephew of the appointed captain, outside the cabin on the ship Orangie.
That furthermore, all the stowaways from Batavia (up to 10 in number) should first be brought ashore to the fort, and then, upon arriving from the Fatherland, sent back again with the passing ships, to serve as an example to those who might think they are hiding from the Cape in the fleet heading for the fatherland.
That the two helmsmen of the ship Mars, due to her unbound, disembarked, and unmanned compartments, etc., will also be transferred, and in return, the return ship will be provided, namely:
In place of Gerrit Pietersz Meijfroo, helmsman, with the second skipper of the ship Malacca, named Jacob Claesz Le Bleuw, next to the reigning skipper, whom helmsman Gerrit Pietersz will transfer to the ship Malacca without command.185
And the helmsman Joost …186 of the ship Hoff van Zeelandt will again serve as chief helmsman on the Mars, against helmsman Speelman, who will also go to the Hoff van Zeelandt without command.
While this meeting was taking place, Com[m]andeur Riebeeck also showed that he had certain maps drawn up and marks of an outside channel just around the corner of this Taeffel Bay, which he had surveyed with the skipper of the galley, in order to be able to anchor in the strong south-easterly winds (this Taeffel Bay in this monsoon often blowing strongly) and thus to be less forced to sail away from this bay. And because this raft was equipped with many old and experienced skippers from the East Company, he had requested some committee members from it to examine the aforementioned map and sea levels of the commune. to be inspected outside the shipyard187 etc. It is understood that this should be accepted, but only so long as the respective skippers of the aforementioned return fleet have first arrived at what will be the heaviest shipping traffic, and in the meantime, the galley Perkijt should be sent first to fetch some fattened sheep from Robben Island, so that the skipper of that ship could also be present, as having helped to locate the aforementioned outside the shipyard with the Commander. Regarding the disputes between the aforementioned sub-merchant De Ligne and his skipper Jan Munt, who complained to each other about many improper matters, it has been decided to have these matters further investigated by a committee from the Breden Council, in order to determine, at a further meeting, in the best interest of the highest order, how to allocate this costly return trip as much as is deemed most appropriate by the Reverend Company.
The following were then nominated and elected as the committee: The Reverend Hr. Vice Admiral Dirck Knibber; the chief merchant Jan Abramsz Valck, and the skipper Pieter Jonasz, in the presence of the fiscal of the Fort de Goede Hope, Abraham Gabbema.
Thus done and resolved, in the Fort de Goede Hope on the date and year as above.
