The skipper and pilots of the galley Perkijt, having requested the bounty set forth in the general article-brief from the E. Compe. for the urgent voyages to India, and noting that the said galley was made and destined by My Lords on the 17th, and that it had therefore also been sent expressly for the service of this residency & according to which it was not possible to go to Batavia, Moreover no reason could be found why the general chiefs more than others of the premium, up to this place, being 2/3 of the journey would be hidden, especially since they will have to brave sailing here on very bad and crappy waters (which almost the whole world is against its grain). Therefore: to encourage them all the more, the common premium to be enjoyed on 2/3 of the voyage, being that with the 6 months on Batavia amounts to 600 guilders, and according to that, up to here 400 guilders, because having sailed further, at seven weeks still had nothing left, within which time it was often sailed, moreover the ship would also have been here sooner, if it had not been tied so low that in order not to get water across, its topsails seldom could have sailed at the slightest topsail breeze, or it was each time filled with water, so that according to their unanimous statement several times (the water not being able to release quickly enough) they thought of that flooding. So, after various conferences and deliberations, it was finally unanimously resolved to have the same in form as before (regarding the raising of the overflow) rebuilt, and according to that order to have the ribs and other necessary maintenance in the forest firstly made by the free woodsman Leendert Cornelisz van Zevenhuijsen. to prepare to take on that job sooner and to be able to perform the required service of the ship more quickly.

Den schipper ende stuurluijden van ‘t galjot de Perkijt , versocht hebbende om de premie bij d’ E. Compe. in den generaelen articulbrieff gestelt, op de spoedige voyagies naer India, Ende gemerckt voorsz galjot bij Myn Heeren de 17e gemaeckt ende gedestineert, mitsgaders daeromme oock expres gesonden is, tot dienst van dese residentie &a. volgens dien niet en staet nae Batavia te gaen, Item oock dat geen reden cunnen gevonden worden, waeromme de gem. opperhooffden meer als and’re van de premie, tot dese plaetse toe, sijnde 2/3 van de reijs souden versteecken sijn, te min dewijle deselve hier op een seer slegt ende crap vaerwaeter (‘t welck al de werelt schier tegen de borst staet) hun sullen moeten getroosten te vaeren, Soo is: om haer daerinne te meer aen te moedigen goetgevonden hun de gem. premie op 2/3 van de reijs gereeckent te laeten genieten, sijnde die met de 6 maanden op Batavia compt167 600 gl., ende volgens dien tot hier 400 gl., vermits vorder gevaeren hebbende bij de seven weecken noch overigh hadden, binnen welcke tijt het veeltijts wel overgeseijlt wort, boven dat het scheepjen oock wel eerder soude hier geweest hebben, indien ‘t soo laeg niet verbonden had geweest dat om geen waeter over te crijgen, selden seijn marsseijls bij eenige de minste topseijlscoelte heeft cunnen voeren off wierd’ t’ elckens vol waeter gesmeten, sodaenigh dat conform haer eenpaerige verclaeringe al verscheijden maelen (‘t waeter niet haestig genough cunnende losen) hebben gemeent van die overstolping168 te sincken, sulcx sijl. oock menigmael dieswegen hebben moeten voor de wint lensen tot verachteringe der voijagie, gelijck laast noch gebleecken hier onder ‘t lant door de grove zee om versz oorsaecken niet hebbende cunnen bijhouden, veeltijts voor de wint wegh ende eijndelyck noch op dese wal beset sijnde, moeten de Houtbaij om haer te salveeren inlopen, soudende het anders niet cunnen bolwercken maer tegen de wal aengeraeckt hebben,

Om welck dangereus gebreck te verbeteren dan verscheijde conferentien gehouden synde niet alleen met de opperhooffden bovengemelt maer oock met die van de Musquaetboom hier bij ‘t gem. galjot gelegen, ende in presentie van den Commandeur en de Raet neffens beijder scheepsoppertimmerluijden &a. gevisiteert ende alsoo eenpaerig g’oordeelt sijnde dat het niet beter te helpen soude sijn, als met een overloop wat hoger als den jegenwoordigen daerin te brengen, mits slopende de plancken behalven de lijffhouten van den jegenwoordigen overloop, om boven off elders weder te gebruijcken ende ‘t oude verbant der balcken &a. in syn geheel ende als lastbalcken leggen latende, onder den versz nieuw te leggen overloop, om ‘t scheepjen daerdoor emmers ‘t alderminste niet te krencken, maer eenlijck te maecken dat het door gem. middel te min waeter overneemen ende oock te meer, ende beter losinge hebben als mede het behoorlijcke seyl sal mogen voeren, ‘t welck het nu om de versz cuijlagtigheijt des overloops moet spaeren, ende daerom t’ eeniger tijt op de wal benart sijnde niet soude cunnen affleggen: maer daerdoor wel ellendigh t’ eeniger tijt comen te verongelucken, Soo is nae verscheyden gehouden conferentien ende deliberatien eijndelijck eenstemmig geresolveert ‘t selve in forme als vooren (aangaande ‘t verhoogen van den overloop) alsoo te laaten vertimmeren, ende volgens dien ordre te stellen om de ribben ende ander houdtwercken daertoe nodig in ‘t bos by den vrij houtsaeger Leendert Cornelisz van Zevenhuijsen ten eersten te laeten prepareeren om hoe eer hoe liever aen dat werck te vallen ende de vereijsschenden dienst van ‘t scheepjen te spoediger te mogen trecken.

Aldus gedaan ende geresolveert in ‘t Fort de Goede Hope, ten daege ende jaare als boven.
