Last night, praise God, the flute ship Loenen from Batavia arrived here with a stiff 60 loads of rice and other necessities for this residence, besides a letter dated 27th December 1659 from the Sunda Strait from my lord Pieter Sterthemius, Council of India and admiral about the return ships that had recently left Batavia, whereby His E. ordered that the aforementioned flute be unloaded and done first after its arrival. lord to send out to sea to meet the said fleet within sight of the land, as has been our intention for a long time, by parry of the Cape galley with 3 masses,118 all vessels from the Patria being met to inform the same return ships of the English occupation of St. Helena & a., and also in accordance with the order of our Lord Majors from the Patria, for which purpose (for as long as the same and this opportunity of Loenen has been lacking) the moored boat Schapejachjen with the letters prepared for that purpose, one for each ship, has been ready. So in Rade it is reinforced with the chief captains of the yacht Erasmus and The aforementioned flutes from Loenen, in the service of the E. Company, understand that in order to comply with the aforementioned His E. order, as well as in view of the great necessity in this matter, since the aforementioned flute cannot get beyond the contrary wind, with the help of all the vessels of the aforementioned yacht Erasmus and the aforementioned sheep hunt, to first fetch from land enough rice from Loenen to keep it waterproof, and to bring on board enough drinking water to allow the said Loenen to be able to put to sea as soon as possible tomorrow, when the wind is blowing,119 first of all for the aforementioned purpose, together with the letters from us and the original missive from my Lords on the 17th. To the aforementioned are E. and the preceding captains of the aforementioned fleet, all sailing at a brisk pace, with also a supply of ice, carrots, and other fruits for refreshment, etc.
Since the chief pilot of the Loenen flute is unwilling, it has been understood that Erasmus's chief pilot will embark on the flute for as long as the sailing continues, and then return to his own ship.
