English translation

At the Commander's. in Rade (fortified by the captains of the ships Erasmus and the yacht 's Gravenlandt) it was stated that last night and the night before some fires had been heard slyly over the Taeffel Bay between and behind the Luparts Mountains, so that there would be people there without being able to guess who or which, other than what the interpreter Eva and also the Hottentoos or Watermen living here near the fort know to say that it can be none other than the Caepmans and their followers, our open enemies, through whom, as they said, the Saldanhars had entered far into the country, etc. So that this could be brought to the attention of the aforementioned Council with a unanimous vote. It has been understood and decided to send out some spies this evening at night to see if they can be found, and to find out what these following persons have been commanded to do.

Elias Giers of Stockholm, corporal as head,
Christiaen Jansz of Housum, military officer,
Pieter Mou of Danzig,
Pieter Hansz,
Matthijs Huijbrechts,
Nicolaes Delbort,
Pieter Meerhof,

Pieter Meerhof,
With instructions to the aforementioned corporal that if he encounters any army of our enemies, he will march there at night (as they will not be allowed to march during the day, so as not to be discovered by them) three of his men will be sent to Hartwarts with a report, and he will send the remaining four in the thickets around them remain concealed, so that they can observe and speculate if they should come to break up and depart, whereupon they will continue their course, which will then be pursued by two of their guards, and the other two will remain at that location until our further order or the dispatch of such military force as may be deemed appropriate or permitted on the basis of the information received for the benefit of the Holy Company, and whereupon the aforementioned spies departed this evening in the name of the Lord.

Thus done and resolved at the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year as above.
