The Council (reinforced by the skipper Jacob Bartelsz of the ship 't Hoff van Zeelandt moored here) had been informed that Adriaen van der Goes, sub-merchant on the ship Achillis, had entered into a pledge of trust with the honourable young daughter Anna Geens of Amsterdam, niece and under the guardianship of sub-merchant Nicolaes de Raedt, at the aforementioned Hoff van Zeelandt, requesting with the consent of the said sub-merchant de Raedt that they, together with the others, may be legally confirmed in the Holy State; and to that end to grant that their first commandment may be concluded today after the sermon by the above-mentioned alderman present at the nearest to be ready: to depart with the first, so that these ships, for the aforementioned purpose, may not be delayed or detained in their journey by the Council (reinforced as above), having been able to learn no other than that both were liberal and free persons who had no understanding with anyone in the world according to their own, as well as the aforementioned merchant's, statement in this regard, these young men requested their consent and to that end and for the aforementioned reasons to have their first agreement made this morning after the end of the Christian sermon, and likewise every day in the evening after prayer until the third inclusive, so that after the last call coming on Wednesday (being a prayer day) to have the solemnization legally performed for all the people by the preacher Cornelius Jansonius23 and to proceed with the faithful public.
Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year as above.
