English translation

Today at the fisherman's house we have found a certain Hottento from the tobacco thieves or Gorachouquas, our greatest enemies' army, and the same has been concealed, unknown to the Saldanhars who are present here, with threats and otherwise through a translation of Herrij (brought from Robben Island), who has obtained so far that from afar he has not only pointed out to us where the aforementioned Gorachouquas and Caepmans are stationed near Ankaisoa, but has also promised to serve as an indicator and to bring our force to bear on the occasion of such a long and fruitless effort that has been made here for some time. Thus, after due deliberation at the Council (reinforced by the chief captains of the ship Honingen) unanimously understand not to let this said occasion pass, but because the Lord God also gives us the opportunity to be able to reinforce ourselves from this ship in such a way that a capital force can be made to leave the said ship's quarters without hindrance, etc., to take charge of it, and to that end to arrange everything in order to have 18015 men out of the ship by tomorrow evening at the earliest, and about 70 from here so Comp. servants, as voluntary freemen, to march in the name of the Lord so as not to be discovered by day and, if possible, to fall suddenly on the neck of our enemies in the morning; and, with God's help, to deliver such a blow that they may be inflicted with such terror that they may henceforth leave our people (settled here and living freely and freely everywhere) in better peace and quiet.

To lead which train, fiscal Abraham Gabbema has been ordered, as head of the army, divided into three companies, and over them as commanders. and to appoint in place of the captains16 the sargeant of the fort, Pieter Everharts, the sargeant of the ship Honingen, François Dominicus, the corporal of the midshipmen, Pieter Cruijthoff-Comps., the building master, each with 48 to 50 heads17, along with 2 corporals of the fort and 2 do. from the aforementioned ship Honingen.

And to give these and all the crew even more energy, the previously established bounty has been persisted with: 100 guilders for the porter Domans, and 40 for other common Hottentoos; half as much, and as for the animals, the prize will be based on the capture of such a large or small one.

It was also approved to send 6 or 8 slaves armed with herringbone men to carry various items and to look after the animals.

Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope, date above.
