As one trusts that by the means and order set yesterday, youngest and further, the animals that are still in possession (many nice young ones, good and in good condition to be ready for ploughing etc. next year) will be well preserved, and in addition a group of 30 to 40 men from free men etc. has been calculated. It could be decided to go and visit the Caepmans at their camp, for which we have not yet been able to capture anyone, by force or otherwise, to show us their whereabouts. So, after lengthy deliberation, it was finally agreed to bring Herrij from the island and use him for this purpose (well-preserved) on the promise of mountains of gold without any consideration of securities. For this purpose, since the weather was bad, a rumour mill was sent there first after this consultation.

Alsoo men vertrout door de middel ende ordre gister noch jonghst ende nader gestelt de noch overich hebbende beesten (veel schoon jongh goedt ende recht bequaem staende te worden tegen ‘t aenstaende jaer tot de ploegh &a.) wel sullen bewaert blijven, Ende gecalculeert is boven dien noch een tropjen van 30 a 40 man uijt vryeluijden &a. soude cunnen uytgemaeckt worden om de Caepmans eens mede te gaen besoecken aen haer leger waer toe wij tot dato noch niemandt hebben cunnen gevangen crijgen om door dwangh of andersints ons te doen wijsen waer deselve leggen, soo is na langwijlige deliberatien eijntelijck goedtgevonden Herrij van ‘t eylandt te halen ende die daer toe (wel bewaert) te gebruijcken onder belofte van goude bergen sonder meninge van effecten, waer toe dan vermits ‘t moye weer ten eersten na dese raedtspleegingh een roijschuijtien9 derrewarts is heen gesonden.
