Since the death of the vendor Jan van Harwarden, the command640 of the present militia here has always been provisionally assumed by at least one sargeant, in accordance with the aforementioned higher advance, after his death by Pieter Everaerts van Cruijssaert, corporal commander of the flute ship Harp, which the E. Compe. having served in the militia in India for a long time and, as far as we have yet seen, proving himself suitable for the aforementioned service, he is hereby confirmed as sargeant in the aforementioned place, largely as a resignation and in accordance with the general article of this letter, and awarded a salary of 20 guilders monthly, in addition to the standard ration of 4 ra. food money, effective today and remaining bound for 5 years, for which he has been bound to serve here at the Cape.

Aengesien sedert het affsterven van den vendrigh Jan van Harwarden het comando640 over d’ aenwesende militie alhier als hooft tot voorsz van Harwardens hoger avancement te vooren altijt ten minsten bij een sargeant becleet na sijn doot bij Pieter Everaerts van Cruijssaert corporael commandant van ‘t fluijtschip de Harp provisionelijck is waergenomen welcke d’ E. Compe. voor dato langen tijt in India onder de militie heeft gedient ende voor soo veel ons tot noch is blijckende sigh tot voorsz bedieninge bequaem toont, Soo wort denselven om ‘t meeste ontsagshalven ende conform den generalen articulbrieff bij desen in de voorsz plaetse als sargeant geconfirmeert ende toegeleyt een belooninge van 20 gl. maendelijcx neffens ‘t ordinaire rantsoen van 4 Ra. costgelt, heden ingaende ende verbonden blijvende syn 5 jarigh verbandt daervoor hier aen de Caep uyt te dienen.
