As the Commander of the return fleet E. Isaacq Coedijcq with the ships Amersfoort, Walvis, Fenix and Zirckzee on the 21st of last month February together with the other four were here before the bay by the strong S.S. easterly winds that have arisen, have not emerged until now and according to that there is no other way to sustain them than that we will continue on to St. Helena, as a result of which we will miss the 22 lasts of rice and some packs of cloth loaded in it for this Cape residence, so as not to cause any slight hindrance to the same and our embarrassment etc., So it is done. to relieve the return ships from the said obstruction, the Council has approved the first arriving and all expected galleys to be sent from Amsterdam or Zeeland to the aforementioned island of St. Helena to fetch the said goods back here, and also to send the same return ships after the arrival of Thursday. In order not to delay the galley, nor to delay it in the least in advancing its homeward journey, it has also been resolved to send the four return ships, Wapen van Amsterdam, Oliphant, Provintie, and Vlissingen, present here (if none of the aforementioned galleys arrive before their departure), along with the assistant Gijsbert van Campen and 5 or 6 men to first receive the goods and store them there in a berth until the arrival of one of the aforementioned galleys.

And thus on the 18th of the aforementioned month, February. has passed away the vendor Jan van Herwarden who, in addition to the oversight of all works, also supervised the Comp's grain construction above and beyond his military service. The first of which, namely the supervision of everything since his death, was entrusted to the fiscal Abraham Gabbema, and under the supervision of the same, the other, namely the grain construction, was the provisional corporal Pieter Cruijthoff, who was found suitable for the same and his military service. It has therefore been understood that Cruijthoff will be used for that purpose from now on and to be furnished with the following deed of amendment, and also for the release of the other corporal due to the expiration of the person of Elias Giers as 2nd. Corporal in accordance with the deeds inserted below to pass to this.

Pieter Cruijthoff van Lin, in the country, joined the ship. 1658 for midshipman at 10 guilders.636, which provisionally took care of the corporal's place for some time and, since the death of the vendor, also with one of the Comps.637. Corn construction, which must be done with both military personnel and others, and according to which, for the most relief, a first corporal [number] here is most suitable. Therefore, given his required competence and also to gain more authority, he is hereby requisitioned to the rank of corporal of midshipmen with 16 guilders [number] monthly, starting today, and remaining affiliated to the E. Compe. here for five years.

Elias Giers from Stockholm arrived here on the fluyt ship 't Lam on December 21st. 1653 for a midshipman who has provisionally occupied the corporal's position for some time and has served his time satisfactorily for a long time. In this regard, as required by this corporal's qualification, he is confirmed in the aforementioned corporal capacity and accepted for another three years with a salary of 14 guilders per month, commencing today.

Thus done and resolved at Fort de Goede Hope on the date and year as above.
