English translation

By the supervisor of Comps. sheep, on the Robben Island Rijcq Overhagen, it being reported that in the past year more than 120 sheep had been killed by the rain and the cold due to a lack of stables, due to the stormy weather during the rainy season, etc., and that at present, 474 good-sized sheep, as large as calves, were thriving very well. And to keep them in such a condition and for good breeding, very necessary for the rainy season, suitable stables had to be made. Therefore, considering the importance of that, approved by the Council, it was firstly ordered to the forest people: to have the following timbers made, for a sheep shed 100 feet long, and 18 feet wide, so that the sheep on Robben Island may be under the roof at night during the rainy season, since they cannot stand under the roof in the present weather, and because of the wet, cold weather, as mentioned above, they are often subject to death, etc., namely:

After completing this, which has also been resolved and all-inclusively ordered, wood should be made ready for a large cairn at Comp's corn scourer to be used there (the best pastures being) for Comp's grain. to keep the beastiality at night, and to graze it by and around it during the day, up to the forest hill included, and sometimes also on the large plain over the Liesbeecq river, outside the freemen's cornlands, which were very necessary also for the protection and preservation of these freemen's beastiality, etc., as well as in consideration of exchange of pastures, since the majority of our beastiality was particularly necessary; because in one place one grazes, in another there is room for some growth, as here in the Taeffel Valley and behind the Leeuwenbergh (which was given to the Commander by the Lord of Goens as arable land) it has already been largely eaten away, and in addition to which, near Harman Remajennes' residence (a bridge has been built), a wide road will also have to be cleared to provide a suitable passage for Comps. land from the crael of Comps. The corn mill was also approved, as the aforementioned overland meadow was finally finished.613

This also proved to be acceptable, as the aforementioned structure was finished in the forest.614 The carpenters here at the fort were to keep an eye on the stables (with corn silos above them) for the sheep and draught animals, etc., behind the fort on either side of the crael, to be finished. This crael will also have to be renovated soon, and the timberwork must also be finished, because the ground parapet, due to erosion caused by the animals butting their horns, is always a work in progress. If the wall is generally open, it is necessary to better protect the animals, as it should be constructed around it like a palisade, since the aforementioned earthen walls also create a weak barrier for the fort.

Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope, date uts.
