English translation

Today, arriving here overland from Saldanha Bay, the person Jurien Jansz of Amsterdam, one of the free Saldanha sailors, with three men from the ship West Vrieslandt, arrived there on the 14th in a very miserable condition and full of sickly scurvy people, but they arrived safely, according to the letters from the chief and the verbal report of the three men, such that the situation is at its highest, preying on a mere supply of refreshment, although they are reasonably accommodated there by our free Saldanha sailors with vegetables, birds, and eggs from the islands situated there, which provide them with reasonable refreshment. So it is in the hastily approved the sheep hunt at first, loaded with yellow carrots, turnips, turnips, rammels and Spanish radishes &a. which can last somewhat better than vegetables, to be taken off, besides as much milk and chicken eggs from the freemen as can be hastily collected and fetched together, in order that the people of the aforementioned ship may be the more refreshed and encouraged to do their best; in order to get back there as quickly as possible, it would be desirable that, with one according to our inclination, we also send along some beastly food; but because of the lightness of the aforementioned sheep hunt (which is our sorrow), we must leave it behind, since only one of the second boat has been moored, and according to that, no beastly or sheep, besides the aforementioned horticultural crops, could be brought over so far alive; But if the seal yacht or a galley like the Tulp had, the aforementioned ship would be able to accommodate so much that it could continue its journey from there without arriving here. Therefore, as this cannot now be done beyond what has been agreed upon above, they should write to them to do their best to come back here as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Thus done and resolved at the Fort of Good Hope, date here.
