English translation

In these circumstances it was to be feared and dreaded that the inhabitants, through this work that had been begun but not yet finished, might form a conspiracy and thus launch an attack on the freemen and Comps. persons and resources, etc., which would not be well-suited to the current occupation, as in everything with farmers, gardeners, smiths, ploughmen and wheelwrights, 533 carpenters, masons, in the forest, outside, inside and on Robben Island, there are no more than 97 people, including 19 or 20 sick from the last departed ships. So, after consultation of matters and various deliberations in Rade (assisted by the aforementioned E. Willem Bastincq), it was decided to reinforce this residence for a while from the ship Prince Willem with 20 military personnel, while these matters were concluded and a new alliance and peace was made with the Hottentoes. It is hoped that ships from the homeland will be able to be collected before the May break, and accordingly, the aforementioned tax for the Holy See (presently at the highest point) will only be for a short time.

In addition to which, the soldiers also understand that 1,000 lb. of gunpowder and 200 hand grenades will be raised, as well as the two light metal pieces from the yacht Maria, to be placed on the stone redoubt of Corenhoop, in the middle of the free lands.

Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope, date as above.
