English translation

In Rade, the chief merchant Willem Bastincq and the skipper of the yacht Maria were present at the most recent incidents, considering all the circumstances, that none of the runaway slaves will be found again, according to the reports528 of the exiled Hottentoos, who (as they claim) cannot find any more of them, and which is why the prisoners are becoming quite desperate, fearing that they will have to die because of it, especially since the Gorachouquas, or tobacco thieves (who were causing us much trouble), have fled inland, and therefore know no way to hand over the superiors to us, so that the matters have now come so far. that the sowing of the aforesaid Schacher will have spread throughout the whole country: and will have caused as much disruption as possible, and therefore because of the runaway slaves we have now come so far that the work must be continued properly, which the said slaves themselves are also requesting, offering in exchange for their redemption a good portion of cattle and sheep and then making a new and firm peace and alliance with the others, etc., but that Herrij with all his cattle and people should first be apprehended, since he is the primary cause of all the misfortunes, as having by his people over 5 years paid all the Comps. having animals stolen, and the young David, worth 530, killed; as well as constantly stealing whatever he could find, and lastly, while the Reverend Cuneus was present here, 15 sheep were taken that were still in his herd, as well as all the animal goods traded for Composer, copper, tobacco, and pipes, entrusted to him over three years,531 of which he had delivered only ten to the Commander, and enriched himself with the rest, so that everything he had was not his, but Composer's own, etc.

All this being considered and accepted, after several deliberations it was resolved to get him into the fort with a sweet talk, and then to converse with the others, to listen to them and thus come to a conclusion about everything; and, as soon as he was inside, to also bring all his possessions (placed near the basement) to the fort and into the hands of the sargeant and some soldiers.

Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year aforesaid.
