On that date, the freemen requested that the returned and imprisoned male and female slaves first receive their punishment and then be allowed to use them again in the fields and corn cultivation, as this was most necessary for that purpose, etc. And noting that it might take a while before all of them returned, the Council, although they would have preferred everyone to return first and then simultaneously set the proper example, approved: To have all the freemen and their slaves come to the fort tomorrow; and to hold a meeting for that purpose, and then to deliberate further with the Citizens' Council. and to discuss what punishment should be imposed on this one in advance, as an example of the others, and to prevent the advance from running away, so that each, after execution, could return to their necessary work in the aforementioned agriculture. 522
