And it has been noted that free people are now beginning to come into the market fairly regularly, especially sheep, which they now trade daily from the inhabitants in reasonable quantities. And that fish, also very abundant here, and more than enough for side dishes, can be caught there, which they are therefore only willing to do with little diligence. It has been decided that henceforth no salted meat or speck should be sold to them for cash, nor even at the gate, but that they should be allowed (in accordance with their request) to occasionally slaughter a sheep for convenience, and to do so among themselves. Selling for three stuivers per pound as per the date stated thereon, provided that this is first declared and paid to the Lord for each sheep: six stuivers, and for a cow: 24 stuivers, as well as for a pig: four pence per pound, live, so that they are not too eager and generous in slaughtering animals, and that care is taken to ensure that breeding is not excessively and unnecessarily hampered. Therefore, it has also been deemed acceptable to inhibit the slaughter of any ewes or ewes, nor cows (suitable for breeding), and also to exempt suitable oxen from these for use with plows and wagons, etc.
Item also so If any of the animals die, the freedmen will also present themselves to conduct proper inspections and have the dead body removed or buried, in order to prevent any fraud that might be committed under the name of a deceased animal, in accordance with legal custom.
Furthermore, the freemen requested permission to go on a third expedition, because it had been understood that a party of Hottentoos409 from the Charingurinars, with their housing and cattle, were encamped about two days' journey from here, and that they therefore expected to become quite a beast of them. Therefore (considering that it was now the right harvest time to mow, thresh, and gather the grain standing in the fields) it was agreed and understood that their request should be declined (for these and other reasons), because it had become apparent that the aforementioned people, whom they intended to approach, namely the Charingurinars, were not very beast of them, and It is also much more dangerous to come with such a small number of troops, as if they were trying to give us the clap and kill us, as the principles of this are not only revealed by you. Passado to our Robbejachts volcq, but also this year to ours to two different journeys in the land near Roach. Charingurina and Gorachouquas (or tobacco thieves), according to the warnings of our trusted Hottentoes, were always on board, and were slowly escaping with ours, as they went around saying that Charingurina (the boat-washers of the aforementioned Robbejach) and Gorachouquas (the tobacco thieves) had all made a resolution to give ours the clap at an opportune time and run away with the copper, etc.
And now we believe ourselves sufficiently relieved of the departure of the Chaijnouquas, from whom we have already traded a good portion of goods, and who have also promised to bring more in a few days to trade, as have some others, namely the Cochoquas (who are very rich in goods, and indeed the most powerful of all the true Saldanhars). And all of whom are not happy to have us in their country with them, following the affirmation of the aforementioned Chaijnouquas, so as not to support them in their departure with goods, with the departure of our nation (from which they always flee, and their goods for fear of being robbed). every time drifting away and shifting jlen, according to the evidence of which has often been experimented: but in order to situate the people as much as possible, to entice them off themselves, and to be able to attract every good salary here, then the freemen are more seriously prohibited from going out, and instead of that it is recommended that they mow their grain standing in the fields, and see to it that they get a house, as the E. Compe. attaches so much importance to agriculture to them: as well as, instead of all that going out, to make sure that their houses and barns for storing the aforementioned grain are clean and ready. It also becomes a good, permanent cradle for the safekeeping of its reason and cannot be acted upon, so that it is no longer torn apart by the wild animal and is eaten, as often happens, and it is not seen above the head at all.
Continuing to allow her to trade in the property that comes to her house, freely and liberally according to the established rule, as much as she can get, and recommending, instead of leaving, to invite the inhabitants to her as much as possible, if they wish to trade what they want to do, even to deliver. And regarding the aforementioned Charingurinars and Gorachouquas, the only thing to do is to get a little of our own from them, along with a lot of copper and tobacco, and thus to witness their attack on them, just as the aforementioned Charingurinars demonstrated so fully in the Saldanha Bay anno Passado, when they attacked our seal-hunting boat, which they cut to pieces, took the copper from, and furthermore intended to give the people the chop, which they then barely managed to salvage by swimming after the yacht, etc.
Thus resolved and arrested in the Fort of Good Hope, date as above.
