English translation

The freemen having requested to be allowed to go out themselves without the Comp's servants, to see and undertake whether they would be able to collect any more goods from the inhabitants than with ours together,407 this has been granted in order to fill their measure; provided that, according to the conditions made with the Honourable Commissioner van Goens, they will not give more for the goods than the Honourable Comp's custom has allowed, in order not to enlarge or further destroy the current market (being three times as high as over five years), and that everything that we find they have in excess or to deal with the Honourable Comp's. will be delivered, at a price agreed upon in advance, to accommodate more people (inclined to exemption) for the promotion of agriculture.

They also argue that the ban on distributing elephant teeth, renocheros horns, etc. is completely harmful to them, as these are the E. Compe. but nevertheless be wrested from the people of the ships, whom they manage to get under their thumb for as much as 6 times as much as they are accustomed to giving. So on their initiative it has been decided to revoke the same ban and to leave the revolt open to the freemen. However upon approval and further approval of our Lord Masters and on the condition that they will not be able to sell it to any of the Comp.'s servants, but to deliver all the renocheros horns, ohliphants' teeth and ostrich feathers to the E. Comp. himself: on condition that a full cent profit is enjoyed thereon, all the better for Comp. might come into the hands.408

Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope, date of this.
