English translation

Transshipment having been made for the installation of a good grain parlor, And furthermore it has also been stated that the E. Compe. will need about 50 to 60 morgen of land to cultivate annually to feed this garrison and slaves & such, in the hope that from the cultivation of the freemen the remainder for the ships and Batavia will come within 1 or 2 or 3 years, And also to keep the garrison's maintenance expenses without giving any money as payment for it (regarding grains) untaxed: but with Comps. To recruit our own people and slaves from agriculture, it was decided to construct the aforementioned barn, 108 feet long, along with the discharges and everything else, 40 feet wide, Rhineland-style, with 10 beams 12 feet apart, etc., so as not to be short of buckets of grain (which, with God's help, are expected to be cut by December) and to have ample space for storage.

And so that this work could be completed and finished in a timely manner. This item is also noted by the Rev. Mr. Commissioner Van Goens, in his instructions left here, among other things, orders us not to rush so much with the head in progress, as well as with the work necessary for corn building, etc. It has therefore been decided to remove the carpenters from the head and next Monday, first of all, in addition to the work on the Corn Heap redoubt (which is small), to have the timbers of the aforementioned corn scourer made ready and brought to the place by the wagons specially designed for that purpose; and to have the main work completed from now on by as many carpenters as possible from the incoming ships, successively, without hindering the necessary shipwork, while they are moored here, and put to work: in order to complete it all together more quickly.

Thus resolved and arrested in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year of the month.
