Present to the Noble Governor & omnibus, deputized by the shopkeeper, Wm. Corssenaar, with the assumption of the town councilors of the Caab Henning Huijsingh, Claasz Hendriksz Diepenauw, and Abraham Diemer.
The Noble Governor, presenting to the meeting, a certain letter dated, sent expressly from Stellenbosch by the bailiff Michiel Ditmar,85 which describes how the Ubiqua Hottentots had marched across the Red Sand to Riebeekscasteel in the past week and that there they had stolen forty cattle from the post of a certain farmer named Gerrit Cloeten, with the promise87 that they Hottentots first intended to impoverish the freemen, and then to visit the Comps. posts. Provided that his Noble Besides the aforementioned letter, it was also verbally reported that the son and servant of the aforementioned Gerrit Cloeten had driven off a good herd of sheep, which the aforementioned Hottentots had also overpowered and wounded the horseman with four or five arrows. This could only be seen as open hostile violence, and that much misfortune was about to befall the pious inhabitants living far and wide in the countryside, so that such misfortune was not quelled and contained in time. Thus the matter having been brought to mature consultation, to maintain the common peace of this Government and also that the Coloniers may be and remain secure against the public violence of these Hottentots, it was unanimously resolved and firmly decided to send 40 men, namely 10 Company servants, 10 citizens of the Caab, together with an equal number from Stellenbos and Drakenstein, with two citizen officers under the command of the Landdrost ...89 equipped with appropriate weapons, ammunition of war, wagons and bottles, to the common Roodezand and thereabouts, in order to apprehend the aforementioned Hottentots as soon as possible and bring them prisoner to this Castle; With or without the stolen cattle, and in case of actual resistance, with further orders and authority to shoot or stab them, and thus to put them to death.90
Thus arrested and decided in the Castle of Good Hope on the date as above.

Den Edle. Heer Gouverneur ter vergaderinge voordragende seekere brief op dato door den land-drost Michiel Ditmar85 expres van Stellenbosch afgesonden,86 waar bij te kennen geeft hoe dat de Ubiquase Hottentots in de gepasseerde week over het roode Sand nae het Riebeekscasteel waaren getrokken en dat deselve aldaar van de Post van seker landbouwer, Gerrit Cloeten genaamd, in de veertig runderbeesten hadden gerooft met bij gedane driegementen87 dat zij Hottentots eerst de vrijluijden wilden arm maken, en dan daar na de Comps. posten aandoen. Mitsgs. dat zijn Edle. buijten den voors. brief ook mondeling was bericht dat de zoon en knegt van de voors. Gerrit Cloeten een goede koppel schapen, die de voors. Hottentots al mede hadden overweldigd en den harder88 daar af met 4 a 5 pylen gequetst, haar weder hadden ontjaagd. Dat het selve niet anders als een openbaar vijandelijk geweld konde werden aangesien, en dat daar door de vroome ingeseetenen die ten platten lande wijd en zijd van den anderen afwoonen veel onheils stonde te overkomen, in soo verre dusdanig quaad niet wierde te keer gegaan en in tijds gedempt. Soo is de saak in rijpe overlegh gebragt sijnde, tot maintien van de gemeene ruste van dit Gouvernement en ook dat de Coloniers tegen het openbaar geweld van dese Hottentots secuur mogen sijn en blijven, bij eenparigheijt van stemmen geresolveert en vast beslooten 40 man, te weten 10 Comps. dienaaren, 10 borgers van de Caab nevens gelijk getal van Stellenbos en Drakensteijn , met twee borgerlijke officieren onder ‘t commando van den Ianddrost …89 van behoorlijke wapenen, ammunitie van oorlogh, wagens en vivres versien sijnde, na het geme. Roodezand , en daar omtrent, heen te senden, omme de voors. Hottentots soo doenlijk sien te agterhaalen en gevankelijk na desen Casteele af te brengen; ‘t zij met of sonder het gestoolen vee, en in cas van faijtelijke resistentie, met verdere last en ordre deselve onder de voet te mogen schieten of steeken, en alsoo van ‘t leven ter dood te brengen.90
