English translation
At a meeting by the Ede. Lord Governor issues the statement below, showing the decay and obsoleteness of the Comps. vessel, the Jupiter, at least moored in the Soute River, reading from word to word as follows:
'We underst. Marten de Jeught, skipper on the ship Driebergen, and Matthijs Cool, skipper on the ship Eenhoorn, provided that: Jan Brommert, equipment master of these gouvernements, all employed by E.Compe. modestly, explain how we met together on September 14 this year through the Ede. Lord Governor Espres56 has committed to reviewing the E.Comps. vessel named the Jupiter, moored in the South River, and after careful investigation, we found the vessel to be completely useless and rotten due to its age, as the bolts were not a quarter of an inch thick, and the timbers and stays were completely rotten, so that no nails could be held in them, making it unfit to be rebuilt or made fit for further service with the Company; therefore, in the truest sense of the word, we have certified these with our usual signature. Undersigned: Cape of Good Hope, September 15, 1698, and was submerged. Marten de Jeught, Mattheys Cool, J. Brommert.'
This is how the matter has been discussed after a mature consultation, to understand the reasons and motivations contained in the above explanation, to understand them consonantly and to resolve them, to avert and scrap the sailed vessel to avoid all complications and accidents.57
Thus, and decided in the Castle of Cabo, Good Hope is arrested on that day and years to come.
