Presentibus omnibus, demptis the cashier Hendricus Munckerus, the guarantor bailiff Jacobus Cruse and the dispenser Johannes Swellengrebel.
The Noble Lord Governor having presented to the meeting how the patriotic ship T’ huijs te Craijesteijn last last February 1st, with the latest patriotic advice addressed to the illustrious College of the Lords Seventeen to the Government of the High East Indies, having departed from Zeeland on the 28th of the passed month of May 39 in the early morning here behind the Cloof of Leuwencop near the Roodesand, had unfortunately come to rest and that besides (Praise God) the safety of the people, besides sixteen chests of money and some other goods, the aforementioned Comps. letters and other papers, which, in the confusion, some malicious volunteers had taken from the box and thrown through the flooded cabin, and had fished out and collected by the chiefs, and had dried at his lordship's. All of these were also sufficiently legible. And how much the E. Comps. and the aforementioned high government of the Indies cared for the hasty ordering of these, as well as the transport of the aforementioned troops and the aforementioned cash and other goods, which were still being salvaged daily, mattered, and whether this was due to this unexpected and significant cause, and whether it was also due to the excessively long delay in receiving the E. Comps.'s required patriotic advice, people, and cash. If the most important affairs could not be hindered to adjudication, nor could their Highnesses at Batavia be disadvantaged in their administration, it would be no better if the present frigate, the Soldaat, which was otherwise intended to depart from here soon via the island of Mauritius to Madagascar for the slave trade,40 were allowed to sail from here to Batavia as soon as possible (while the other vessels were also too small), with the aforementioned patriotic advice, cash, people, and as much of the remaining salvaged goods as possible. Thus the matter was carefully considered, considered, and subsequently also supervised, unanimously approved and understood that the aforementioned frigate, the Soldier, will soon and as soon as possible be able to do so, under the supervision and guidance of the skipper, Hans Christiaan Holm, the prow from here41 will first have to turn towards Batavia to deliver the aforementioned (sic) patriotic goods, cash, people and property found on that aforesaid stranded soil to the High Indian Government, and then, upon its discharge there, with the same frigate or another vessel in its place, which was nevertheless deputed at the pleasure of the High Indian Government, first towards Mauritius to unload there the goods in satisfaction of the demand of that island, which he will take on Batavia, and in return for ballast Having loaded so much ebony and other timber, and otherwise, as our current demand, which entails more broadly, then further crossing from Mauritius to Madagascar, ending in such a way as the appendix to his previous instructions also implies. And having also performed his duties there properly, both in the matter of the slave trade, and for which purpose the cash and other goods will also be given to him in Batavia, as well as in the inquiry about the missing Company ship, the Ridderschap, which is understood to be stranded elsewhere near that last island, to this government, to return it as soon as possible.
Thus arrested and decided in the Castle of Good Hope on the day and year as above.

Den Ede.Heer Gouverneur ter vergaderinge voorgedragen hebbende hoe dat het vaderlants-schip T’ huijs te Craijesteijn den eersten Februarij lest leden, met de jonxte vaderlandsse advijsen bij het illustre Collegie der Heeren Seventhienen aan de Hooge Indisse regeringe gericht, uijt Zeeland gescheijden sijnde op den 28e der gepasseerde maand Maij39 in de vroege morgenstond alhier achter de Cloof van Leuwencop omtrent het Roodesand gans ongeluckelijck was comen t’ stranden en dat behalven (God Loff) de behoudenisse van ‘t volck, neffens sesthien kisten met geld en eenige andere goederen, de voors. Comps.-brieven en verdere papieren de welcken door eenige quaetwilligers in die confusie uijt de doose genomen en door de cajuijt die onder water stond waren gesmeten, en bij de opperhooffden weder opgevist en versamelt en bij sijn Ede. doen drogen. Sulcx ook alle deselve genoeghsaem leesbaer waren. En hoe veel aen een haastige bestellinge der selve als ook aan het transport van ‘t voors. manschap en de voors. contanten en verdre goederen, die noch dagelijcks geborgen werden, de E.Compe. en gemelte hooge Indisse-regeringe gelegen was, en of het oversulcx om dese onverwachte pregnante oorsaeck en op dat ook niet door het al te langh achterblijven van de geseijde vaderlandsse-advijsen, volck en contanten, des E. Comps. hooghwighte affairen tot merckelijcke praejuditie mochten werden gestrempt, noch haer Hoogh Edlens. te Batavia in haer bewind benadeelt, niet beter waare dat men het present leggende fregat, de Soldaat , dat andersins was aengelegt omme nu eersdaaghs van hier over ‘t eijland Mauritius nae Madagascar tot den slavenhandel te vertrecken,40 ‘t selve (terweijle ook de overige vaertuijgen te cleijn waren) op het spoedighste met de voors. vaderlandsse-advijsen, contanten, volck, en sooveel het van de overige gesalveerde goederen voeren mach, van hier naer Batavia te laten gaen: Soo is de saake met aandacht wel aangemerckt, gepondereert, en vervolgens ook in omvrage geleijt sijnde, eenpaerlijck goet gevonden en verstaan dat het voors. fregat, de Soldaat , eersdaaghs en soo gouw daer toe in staat sal sijn gebracht, onder het opsight en beleijt van den schipper, Hans Christiaan Holm den steven hier vant aan41 eerst naa Batavia sal hebben heen te wenden omme de meergegeseijde (sic) vaderlandsse advijsen, contante penningen, volck en goet uijt dien genoemden gestranden bodem gecomen, aan de hooge Indisse-Regeringe over te leveren en als dan bij sijn ontladinge aldaer met het selve fregat of een ander bodem in desselffs plaats, dat nochtans aan het gelieven van de Hooge Indisse-Regeringe wert gedefereert, eerst over Mauritius omme aldaer de goederen in voldoeninge van den eijsch van dat Eijland, die hij op Batavia sal innemen, uijtgelost, en daer tegens voor ballast weder ingeladen hebbende soo veel ebbenhoud en ander-soort van timmerhoud, en anders gelijck onse overgaande eijsch dat breeder inhoud, als dan wijders van Mauritius over te steecken nae Madagascar tot sodanigen eijnde als het mede gegeven appendix van sijn voorheensse instructie dat mede brenght. En waer vant aan42 sijn verrichtinge aldaer ook behoorlijck gedaen hebbende, soo in ‘t stuck van den slaven-handel, en waer toe hem de contanten en verdere goederen ook op Batavia sullen werden mede gegeven, als in het naevragen van het vermiste Comps. schip, de Ridderschap , dat men verstaat onder dat laaste Eijland elders gestrant te leggen, nae dit gouvernement toe aan ten spoedighste weder sal hebben te retourneren.43
