How do I get Documents from the National Archives?

Some documents, like marriage certificates and estate files from the National Archives for some years may already be available online on the FamilySearch.org project. Researchers can make use of FamilySearch.org or our Files of FamilySearch section to see which files are available.

Some Archives offices, like Cape Town and Pietermaritzburg do allow researchers to either visit the archives or send an e-mail request for documents. Other archive offices like Pretoria do not allow electronic communication requests and require a visit to their offices.

If a researcher is not able to visit the Archives in person, they can either make use of the services of another Researcher who do have access or the services of institutions like eGGSA.org who also offer this service.
