Dutch Reform Church Baptism Search
The FamilySearch Project has released a large number of Dutch Reform Church Cape Baptism records online. Unfortunately, these records are not yet indexed or made searchable. This function will assist you in searching for and locating baptism records in two easy steps.
In the first step, you will need to find the person you are looking for in the surname indexes on FamilySearch. This index will confirm whether the person is listed and also provide you with the specific date, town and Ringbook information where the actual document can be found. In the second step, you will need to find the Ringbook and then browse to the specific page to locate the baptism entry. This page can then be downloaded from the FamilySearch Project.
For more comprehensive information on the indexes and finding Cape Ringbooks, Cornel Viljoen has created a page on his Website which can be accessed at http://southafrica.mypeoplepuzzle.net/NGK_Cape_RingBooks.html
Search by Surname
Your first step is to see if the person you are looking for is listed in the indexes and whether a baptism record is available. Simply click on the letter the surname starts with and go to the correct Index. Browse through the index and once the person is located, make a note of the town, date of baptism, the Ringbook number, as well as the page number.
Find a Ringbook
Once you have located the person you are looking for in the indexes and noted the town, date of baptism, Ringbook number and page number, you can now look for the Ringbook below. Simply pick the town, on the next page the year of baptism and on the last page, click on the correct Ringbook number. You can now browse to the correct page and find your entry.
