Civil Death Finder
Civil Death Registration became mandatory from the mid to late 1800’s in South Africa. These documents are used to register a death of an individual at Home Affairs and are commonly referred to as the Vault Copy of the Death Certificate. The FamilySearch.org project have digitized many millions of these documents from the various National Archives offices from around South Africa. Unfortunately, not all these documents have been indexed and finding them online is difficult. GenDatabase have created this tool to assist users in quickly finding civil death documents between 1860 and 1960 be town and year.
